Dams and reservoirs are threatened by many factors of change. KaukoInternational has built up a concept to provide customers with real-time information on the state of the risks in the dam basin. Besides, the solution with innovative technologies enhances dam safety against climate and environmental changes and natural factors. With this solution, customers can receive valuable information to support the planning of risk management and prioritize their investments for taking preventive measures.
Dams and reservoirs are threatened by many factors of change. For example, aging, increasing activities around dams, terrorism, climate change, floods, water quality changes, erosion, and bridging. As a result of these factors, the use value of dams and the structural of dam safety are declining, and their service life is shortening.
Together with the right kind of technology providers and project partners, we have developed a project concept called Digital solutions and business Concepts in ensuring the DAM Safety (DCDAMS). The aim of this comprehensive concept is to provide customers with knowledge and information about their dam and its surroundings. Finalized project provides a turn-key solution related to dams and reservoirs safety and monitoring. Based on Finnish expertise, we form a new Finnish dam safety ecosystem using the latest technologies.
The project consists of co-operation between local partners and Finnish consortium led by KaukoInternational and Finnish Water Forum. Additionally, the project utilized special expertise of three external parties and technology experts in the design of the concept. In the competence and requirements mapping, the actors have been divided into three categories, which are risk assessment tools, monitoring and ecosystem management.

At this stage, we have selected China, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan as the target countries for the first phase of this new business concept.
In those areas, there are a numerous number of potential dams and reservoirs which would benefit most of this concept. In addition, we have considered market information and need assessments collected from the target countries. Eventually, an appropriate technological solution was conceived and a business model for the market was developed.
DCDAMS project concept provides customers with real-time and structured information on the state of the risks in the dam basin. Above all, our focus is to identify site-specific and monitored risks beforehand and in a timely manner. We enhance dam safety against climate and environmental changes with the co-operation of our partners. In conclusion, customers can receive valuable information to support the planning of risk management and prioritize their investments for taking preventive measures.
